Islanda is the commercial Cloud and IT Services division of Wave Internet LLC which also operates WaveCS for Department of Defense contracts. Islanda inherited the commercial web services, hosting, and software development contacts from WaveCS and the ISP and IT solutions accounts from CTA Hawaii at its founding in February 2007. While the Islanda name is new it represents over thirty years of IT and data services history in Hawaii and around the world.
Islanda was created to develop Internet based services for small and medium businesses. Based on the evolution of the Internet as an application platform Islanda, and its predecessor CTA Hawaii, explored early technologies for business IT hardware emulation and developed a beta product called CTAHosting Services. This service emulated small business or departmental file servers that could be subscribed to on a monthly basis. The service quickly picked up small business customers looking for a simple way to have more sophisticated IT services but without the expertise or resources to buy and configure file servers and domain controllers for a more professional IT infrastructure. The technology in use in 2006 was not able to economically scale the CTAHosting service. That problem was solved in 2008 with the rapid growth of VMware based virtualization services. Islanda began developing Islanda Cloud Services in 2008 and launched those services in January 2009 as a VMware Service Providing Partner.
Through 2009 Islanda installed, configured and implemented full Cloud Outsourcing for a number of Hawaii businesses and organizations. Based on our experience we knew that the more complete the service the more popular and useful it would be. Unlike the traditional IT solutions model that tries to sell hardware and services on a project basis, the Islanda Cloud model is based on Managed Services which eliminates the need for small businesses to tie up capital dollars for complex servers and workstations. This also removes the need for the hated "maintenance contract" and that use it or lose it cost each month. With Islanda Cloud Services businesses can focus on owning, not hardware that quickly becomes valueless, but access to an information processing network that is constantly updated and provides what they need when they need and can grow or contract with a simple request. With the success of Islanda Cloud services producing rapid growth and the end of 2009 Islanda is developing the next level of Cloud Desktop targeting the small office engineering professional, architect, and graphic designer. At the same time we are exploring other potential markets where the business needs could quickly justify the modular business model of the Islanda Virtual Data Center.
